Everton followed their cup victory with a league win at St. James’ Park, where Newcastle finished with ten players.

Everton beat Newcastle United 1–0 at St. James’ Park on November 2, completing a second victory over the same opponents in five days. Thierno Barry scored early in the second half, and Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time.

Newcastle’s official match report confirms the final result. The win followed Everton’s 3–1 Carabao Cup success at Hill Dickinson Stadium on October 29, giving the visitors a productive return from two meetings in different competitions.

Barry supplies the breakthrough

The clubs’ official match timeline records Barry’s goal in the 49th minute. He finished after Tyrique George’s shot was not held by Lukáš Horníček. Jordan Pickford later denied Yoane Wissa with his feet as Newcastle sought an equalizer.

Ramsey’s dismissal came after two bookings in added time. For Newcastle, that meant the late push for a point ended with a further setback. The immediate difference between the teams remained Everton’s ability to turn one attacking opportunity into a goal and preserve the advantage.

A second win against familiar opponents

The earlier cup game provides important context without replacing Monday’s league result. Everton’s October 29 report recorded goals by James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Barry before Dan Burn’s late consolation. That result sent the club through to a quarterfinal against Fleetwood Town.

The two scorelines show different margins but the same winner. In the cup, Everton established a two-goal first-half lead and added a third after the interval. At St. James’ Park, the league meeting was still goalless at halftime, leaving one successful finish to settle the result.

The short turnaround offered Newcastle a chance to respond against an opponent they had just faced. Changing the venue did not change the outcome. Everton returned from Tyneside with the league points as well as their previously secured place in the cup’s last eight.

Newcastle’s league form remains uneven

Sky Sports’ results record shows Newcastle’s preceding league game was a 2–0 victory at Crystal Palace, following defeats against Aston Villa and Coventry. Monday’s loss prevented the Palace result from becoming consecutive league wins.

That sequence gives the result significance beyond an isolated rematch. Newcastle need a more consistent return across league fixtures, while Everton have demonstrated that they can beat this opponent both at home and away. The next assessment will come against a different side and a different set of problems.

Newcastle’s official schedule lists a visit to Fulham on November 7 as their next Premier League fixture. Follow continuing coverage of the league in Taken Social’s Sports section.
